In the AA series, Bruno Baptistelli explores the foundations of language construction, such as the rhythmic and sonic cadence of baby babbling. The subtle variations between blacks in the paintings hint at different sounds and syllables. In untitled (Thomaz), the painting becomes an object that gains a new dimension: it contains a speaker behind the surface of one half of the canvas—thus invisible. The artist comments: "Seeking a more corporeal presence of the work in space, I am interested in bringing a guitar connected to the flat object. Since Jimi Hendrix was a Black guitarist, creating a kind of grammar for the instrument, I chose a model the same color as the guitar he widely used, with which he performed at the Woodstock Festival, played the American anthem, and carried it in his last performance in Germany before he died in 1970. This was one of the guitars he never destroyed." The white guitar, with a white pickguard, becomes a counterpoint to the black painting on the wall.
