ABOUT
Founded in 1974, Luisa Strina is one of the longest-standing art galleries in Brazil and played a pivotal role in the development of the country’s contemporary art market. It was a pioneer in promoting a generation of Brazilian conceptual artists such as Antonio Dias, Cildo Meireles, Tunga, and Waltercio Caldas.
In the 1990s, the gallery expanded its scope by supporting emerging artists like Alexandre da Cunha, Fernanda Gomes, and Marepe. In 1992, it became the first Latin American gallery to participate in Art Basel, paving the way for the internationalization of Brazilian art. Since then, it has maintained a steady presence at major global art fairs including Art Basel Paris and Miami Beach, ARCOmadrid, Frieze, and SP-Arte.
In the 2000s, Luisa Strina broadened its roster to include significant names from the Latin American scene, such as Jorge Macchi, Juan Araujo, and Pedro Reyes, along with established female artists like Laura Lima, Leonor Antunes, and Renata Lucas.
Over the past decade, it has reaffirmed its international relevance by representing influential figures such as Alfredo Jaar and Anna Maria Maiolino, while continuing to invest in younger generations with artists like Bruno Baptistelli and Luísa Matsushita.
