"Calendário" é um conjunto de treze trabalhos de Cinthia Marcelle, cuja divisão e lógica interna é proposta a partir do calendário gregoriano, organizado em doze partes; neste caso, porém, Marcelle acrescenta uma décima terceira parte. Cada um dos treze trabalhos é composto por doze camadas de tecido industrialmente estampado com 144 (doze multiplicado por doze) listras pretas sobre fundo branco, sustentados internamente por um sarrafo. Cadarços pretos com a mesma espessura das linhas pretas do tecido listrado, essas são posteriormente pintadas de branco, também são usados na composição da obra. A lógica métrica do trabalho é simples e exata: à medida que, simbolicamente, os meses vão avançando, avança também a aplicação de tinta no tecido, encobrindo, em cada trabalho, doze listras pretas. A pintura é feita de maneira precisa e gradual em cima de cada listra. Num jogo de adição, subtração e reposição de materiais - tecido, tinta branca, cadarço e sarrafo - o equivalente à distância métrica encoberta com pintura dessas doze listras é reposicionado em forma de cadarço preto no sarrafo de madeira que se encontra acima dos tecidos. Partindo dessa mesma lógica, os títulos são dados obedecendo a quantidade métrica que foi adicionada, subtraída e reposta: -12, -24, -36, -48, -72, ..., - 120, -132, -144. Sendo assim, um dos treze trabalhos funciona como um ponto zero, onde não há pintura sobre o tecido, nenhuma de suas listras está encoberta e o sarrafo não recebe o equivalente de pintura em cadarço. Não é a primeira vez que a artista utiliza em seu trabalho o ato de pintar por cima ou encobrir superfícies: na série com-contra-de-desde (2011) Marcelle também pinta listras em tecido pré-fabricados; já na série Zona Temporária (trabalho em processo iniciado em 2011), vitrines são encobertas por materiais de baixo custo. Respeitando essa lógica de quantidade definida de matérias e deslocamento, podemos traçar um paralelo com a instalação Família em Desordem (2019), onde a artista dispõe em duas salas separadas a mesma quantidade de materiais organizados da mesma maneira (rolos de saco de lixo e papel kraft, tijolos, brita, silver tape, corda de sisal); em uma das salas o material permanece na mesma disposição até o final da exposição, na outra, porém, antes da abertura Marcelle convida um grupo de técnicos, pesquisadores (que normalmente são artistas) da instituição para intervir no espaço e desordenar os materiais da maneira como quisessem desde que nada saísse e nada entrasse na sala. A instalação Família em Desordem encontra-se disponível para visitação de 15 de julho e 8 de janeiro de 2023 no MACBA, Barcelona. O projeto foi coordenado por Hellena Kuasne e contou com a participação de Abraão Reis dos Santos, Alyne Tima, Ana Matheus Abbade, André Niemeyer, Antônia de Oliveira Barra, Cyntia Monteiro, Maria Eduarda Viana e Mari Santos. -- "Calendar" is a set of thirteen works by Cinthia Marcelle, whose division and internal logic is proposed from the Gregorian calendar, organized in twelve parts; in this case, however, Marcelle adds a thirteenth part. Each of the thirteen works is composed of twelve layers of fabric industrially printed with 144 (twelve multiplied by twelve) black stripes on a white background, supported internally by a batten. Black shoelaces with the same thickness as the black lines of the striped fabric, which are later painted white, are also used in the composition of the work. The metric logic of the work is simple and exact: as the months advance symbolically, so does the application of paint on the fabric, covering and, in each work, twelve additional stripes The painting is done precisely and gradually on top of each stripe. In a game of addition, subtraction, and replacement of materials - fabric, white paint, shoelace, and lumber - the equivalent of the metric distance covered with paint of these twelve stripes is repositioned in the form of a black shoelace wrapped around the wooden lumber above the fabrics. Following this same logic, the titles are given according to the metric quantity that has been subtracted and repositioned: -12, -24, -36, -48, -72, ..., - 120, -132, -144. Thus, one of the thirteen works functions as a zero point, where there is no painting on the fabric, none of its stripes are covered up, and the batten does not receive the equivalent of painting on the shoestring. This is not the first time the artist uses in her work the act of painting over or covering up surfaces: in the series com-contra-de-desde [with-against-of-from] (2011) Marcelle also paints stripes on pre-made fabric; in the series Zona Temporária [Temporary Zone] (work in process started in 2011), shop windows are covered up by low-cost materials. Respecting this logic of defined quantity of materials and displacement, we can also draw a parallel with the installation Família em Desordem [Family in Disorder] (2019), where the artist arranges in two separate rooms the same quantity of materials organized in the same way (garbage bag rolls and kraft paper, bricks, gravel, silver tape, sisal rope); in one of the rooms the materials remain in the same arrangement until the end of the exhibition, in the other, however, before the opening Marcelle invites a group of technicians and researchers (who are usually artists) from the institution to intervene in the space, and disarrange the materials in any way they wish, as long as nothing leaves and nothing enters the room. The installation Family in Disorder is available for visitation from July 15 to January 8, 2023 at MACBA, Barcelona. The Calender project was coordinated by Hellena Kuasne and counted with the participation of Abraão Reis dos Santos, Alyne Tima, Ana Matheus Abbade, André Niemeyer, Antônia de Oliveira Barra, Cyntia Monteiro, Maria Eduarda Viana, and Mari Santos.
