During the pandemic, Gabriel Sierra wrote a novel whose main characters were fictional artists. "Le Creuset" is the first in a new series of works attributed to these invented personas: Olga Tamaribuchi, based in Los Angeles. Here, "she" appropriates the iconic Le Creuset cast-iron pot, removing a section of both the pot and its lid while adding a cluster of pyrite to its surface. "Creuset" is French for "crucible" - a vessel traditionally used in ancient alchemy. A primary goal of alchemists was to transform base metals into gold, and pyrite is commonly known as "fool's gold."
