The Amantes series brings together process-based paintings in which Panmela Castro investigates desire, solitude, and affective bonds from the perspective of a Black woman. The works emerge from intimate relationships, encounters, and emotional projections, treating the body and the portrait as fields of healing, conflict, and transformation. The series marks an important passage in her production, bringing the confessional dimension of her work closer to questions related to sexuality, vulnerability, and the construction of the image of the other.
