Laura Lima’s Disco Voador [Flying Saucer] series is an offshoot of the large moving installation presented in 2023 at MACBA in Barcelona. In Balé Literal, the artist devised
a system of movable cables serving as supports for objects, machinery, paintings, and a variety of other artifacts that dance in an absurd choreography.
The sculptures (or sculpto-creatures, as she nicknamed them) are suspended by metal springs and were conceived as sentient beings— extraterrestrial creatures endowed with their own qualities and characteristics.
In her practice, Lima challenges conventional concepts within the art vocabulary such as performance or installation. The way human behavior forms react to the complexity of social relations is also a subject of fascination for
the artist, prompting a continuous exercise in constructing her own glossary within it.
